The AcadRes test prep and tutoring model was originally built around one-on-one sessions between a unique student and a tutor who is not only an expert in the subject matter but also adept at utilizing the student’s strengths in the learning process. Students love working with us precisely because they feel engaged with and ‘seen’ as individuals capable of creating a positive change through informed actions. Our approach leads to the all-important ‘confidence’ element of the AcadRes ‘teach skills, impart knowledge, and build confidence’ teaching philosophy. So, when we designed our Group Classes for Standardized Test Prep, we made sure we kept these crucial elements of instruction.
MAX 6 STUDENTS
The 6-student cap on the AcadRes Groups ensures that students have a nice balance between engagement and active reflection, virtually eliminating the possibility of ‘checking out.’
Having few students in their class also facilitates our tutors’ ability to get to know each student, as well as to discover and tend to each one’s potential subject matter deficiencies.
It was also important to us that students didn’t feel like they were in a ‘classroom’ but, rather, in a supportive and collaborative learning group.
EFFECTIVE SESSION AND GROUP LENGTH
The 3-hour session length, split evenly between English and Math, optimizes the students’ ability to focus. This increases retention of material taught and keeps the methods and strategies training productive.
The 10-week group length allows for ample time to master the AcadRes standardized test-taking strategies and methods, tend to personal subject matter inadequacies, and gradually build stamina for the over-3-hour test coming up!
TWO TIME’S A CHARM!
While the weekly assignments help the student with the application of the testing techniques, the two simulated tests are important to assess initial individual needs and half-way progress feedback for our tutors. For our students, it helps build stamina and gives them a chance to apply the test-taking process techniques over an entire test.
QUALITY OVER QUALITY
Nope. That was not a ‘typo’ in the section header. While our AcadRes Groups certainly offer a great financial value, we always operate on the premise that education is only as good as its quality. And, whether the student is in our private sessions or in our groups, quality needs to be maintained.
